To Splurge or Save?

To save or splurge? A question that plagues most women across the globe. Is spending over $100 on a pair of jeans really worth it? Am I being cheap for buying drugstore makeup? I've learned over the years that there are some things worth spending the extra coin on and some have been a huge let down!
Here's my break-down of a few items that always seem to leave us asking Splurge or Save?
Mascara
I am a self-proclaimed mascara nut! Always searching for the best and spending A LOT doing so. From Dior to Cover Girl, I think I may have tried them all. That is until I found L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes ($6 at Target)! No clumps, doesn't flake off in your eyes or weigh down your lashes and volumizes and lengthens extremely well. Final verdict on mascara...SAVE! No one will ever know you're not wearing designer mascara (unless you tell them), and with that $40+ you'll save you can get yourself a new pair of shoes!
Moisturizer
Skincare can be tricky. This is one of those things that I real feel depends on the individual, however, I do believe that moisturizing your skin is beauty secret #1! Many creams and lotions promise us the moon and stars, but rarely live up to the hype. If you're truly looking for a noticeable change in you complexion I strongly suggest Clinique Overnight Turnaround Cream ($47 at Clinique counters). Though typically used for overnight, this product isn't greasy and I have no issues wearing it during the day under makeup. I can see the difference in the size of my pores and any discoloration is minimized after only a day or two of use! So the good word on moisturizers is SPLURGE!
Hairspray
My quest for great hairspray has been almost as annoying as my mascara adventures! My hair is naturally curly some some hairsprays will actually turn my perfectly styled coif into a big hot mess! While Redken Quick Dry 18 (averages around $15-$20 at most salons) is a decent product I found that there just wasn't enough hold to get me through my day. If you're anything like me you want a good hold, no frizz, but don't want to rip your hair out at the end of the day trying to get a brush through it! Well let me tell ya, there was a life changer under my nose for years and I never even considered it! John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray ($5.50 at most stores) is a godsend! Dries instantly, zero frizz, fantastic hold but still soft to the touch. Go, buy it, now...hairspray verdict....SAVE!
Clothes and Accessories
The be all, end all in fashion...clothes and accessories. With gads of designers it's so hard to decide what to spend your money on. Unlike beauty products I can't say "get this, but don't get that" because there are just too many options. My best advice on clothes and accessories is to do both, splurge and save! Remember that trends don't last forever and you may regret buying a $300 pair of distressed skinny jeans that we might all be laughing at in 3 years. Instead opt for a pair of non-designer jeans and a basic tee to save, and splurge on a fabulous pair of designer sunglassses, a bag or jewelry. When splurging on designer items remember to go with classic pieces and you can cherish forever. Over time you'll find yourself with a well rounded collection and you won't go to the poor house trying to achieve it!
All in all, it doesn't have to cost a fortune to look like a million bucks, but sometimes spending a little extra doesn't hurt!
